DOT Hazmat: Fundamentals of Hazardous Materials

On a daily basis, as you’re commuting to and from work, going to the grocery store, or taking your kids to ball practice, how many semi-trucks do you see on the road? Probably quite a few—and many of them could be carrying hazardous materials. We often don’t consider this fact as we’re going about our daily lives, because more often than not the transportation of hazardous materials is done safely and does not impact us. However, when it comes to the transportation of hazardous materials, if something goes wrong, the situation can get ugly fast.

In order to prevent these ugly situations from happening, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requires all employees who handle hazardous materials through any phase of the transportation process to be trained.  And this is where Vivid comes in.

DOT Hazardous Materials General Awareness consists of five lessons, The goal of this library is to offer the required DOT awareness-level lessons that help save lives in high risk work environments, particularly those that involve transporting hazardous materials. The first lesson is DOT Fundamentals of Hazardous Materials. This lesson provides an overview of the hazardous materials transport process and introduces the learner to the many references used during that process.
